EUROPEAN ASSISTANCE FUND

The European Assistance Fund (EAF) was set up by Eurogroup to support organisations in the EU’s Southern and new Member States. The EAF provides funding, assistance and expertise to enable these organisations to participate in European campaigns and to achieve higher animal welfare standards throughout the EU.

: : Projects

Since it was set up in 1994 the EAF has contributed to securing successes in terms of increased awareness, stricter European legislation on animal welfare issues coupled with better enforcement. Here are some examples:

	Training courses on campaigning and public relations for animal protection organisations.
	Support for campaigns to ban veal crates, battery cages and individual stalls for pigs.
	Consumer survey on egg purchasing and egg labelling in Spain, Italy and France.
	Project to improve the standards in Portuguese zoos.
	Campaign for stricter rules on the transport of animals in Spain and Italy.
	Travel assistance for animal welfare groups to attend European information meetings.
	Campaign for the adoption of improved standards for keeping meat chickens.
